It seems it's a full moon night in the New Mexico desert. These nine cats are enjoying the night air on an old adobe wall in Santa Fe. Their owners have gone to bed after encouraging their feline friends to go out for the evening. A wise barn owl and a momma raccoon with her baby looks on to the scene while a trio of desert bats "hang around." I call this painting, "Who's Your Daddy? See if you can figure out why. Let me give you a hint, the cat on the upper right is hiding because he doesn't want to pay child support!
Enjoy! Answer: Each kitten matches a different "Daddy". Original Artwork by Award-Winning New Mexico Artist Victoria de Almeida. Acrylic on Canvas. 24" x 20"
Victoria de Almeida was born and raised in the beautiful state of New Mexico. Her family has been in northern New Mexico for over 9 generations. Her favorite subjects to paint are the people and traditions of northern New Mexico. When asked about what influences her work, de Almeida explains, "The foundation of my art has been largely based on the memories and experiences I have had being part of a large, beautiful, Hispanic family. I love painting interiors of the home because of my memories of my grandma Reynalda Almeida. She lived in a little adobe casita near Canyon Road in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She always had a pot simmering on the stove and open arms ready for her children and grandchildren. The rich smell of red chile would permeate the house while my Grandma would push my small hands into a floury bowl of tortilla dough. I hope that my work conveys what I believe to be true of the Hispanic culture: generosity of spirit and home, love of family and traditions, and pride in who you are and where you came from.",/p>
